StormyDog’s latest production goes to air on Tuesday, February 24th, 2011 on Sky Sport 1 at 7pm.

Pegasus Triathlon Festival 2011 was the first endurance sport event to take place in the wake of the devastating earthquake of February, 2011.  The festival featured events which would appeal to everyone from the elite athlete to the person who had never had a go at a triathlon event before.

Sport Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Manager Vaughan Utteridge says, “The Canterbury community is a very active community so it is important that people have opportunities like the Pegasus Triathlon Festival to just get out there and enjoy it – and it’s something to look forward to as well.

Programme producer Annette Lee says, “It’s great for StormyDog to be involved in this event, which shows that the spirit of Canterbury has not been beaten by the events of the last year”.

Going Long Going Hard

Available now from Stormyshop.com the DVD version of Going Long, Going Hard, the director’s cut of the TV programme made by StormyDog Productions and Noggin Films.

The programme follows the exploits of 24 of the world’s top endurance triathletes – among them Ironman and Ultraman world champions, national champions and elite age-groupers. They’ve travelled to New Zealand to embark on Epic Camp, one of the world’s most gruelling training camps – in just 15 days they will have to swim, bike and run 2,500 km through some of the most stunning – and most challenging – terrain in the world.

Along the way they face their own demons, and give viewers an extraordinary insight into what makes top-level athletes go.  They forge friendships that will never be broken – but there are a few other broken limbs and broken hearts along the way.

The athletes talk about themselves and their sport and the sacrifices they have made; and Epic Camp organisers Scott Molina, Gordo Byrn and John Newsom talk about what makes an endurance triathlete.

The DVD also includes some special features; go behind the scenes with the athletes and see what happened when the camera crew weren’t there; and there are special interviews with triathlon legend Erin Baker and with triathlon sports medicine specialist Dr John Hellemans. The DVD is available in both NTSC and PAL formats – make sure you pick the right one when you put your order in. Basically, NTSC is the system used in North America, Japan and some arts of South America, while PAL is used in Europe, most of Asia, most of Africa and Australasia/Oceania. If you’re not entirely sure which standard is for you, check out the list here

Here’s a brief clip from the documentary.

The DVD was officially launched at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, in October 2010.

Box of Delights

StormyDog producer Allan Lee travels to Papua New Guinea to find out what happens to the Operation Christmas Child boxes that are lovingly prepared by people across Australia and New Zealand. The production team visited the capital of PNG, Port Moresby and ventured further afield to see the incredible work achieved by local people working with funding provided as a result of the Christmas boxes. The documentary was broadcast on Shine TV in March 2011. Read more here.

In the Quake Zone

Rhema Broadcasting, Noggin Films and StormyDog Productions have spent quite a lot of time in the earthquake-stricken city of Christchurch, particularly in the wake of the Feb 22nd quake which was so devastating. Read the team’s description of the city in the first few days after the quake, when chaos still reigned. The team put together an hour long documentary in just three days, which was broadcast on Shine TV the week following the quake, and which launched the 2011 season of Shine TV’s Nzone Tonight series.
